Spirit Walking

Romans 8:3-4   3 For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do: by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and to deal with sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, 4 so that the just requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

When we try to go it alone we are bound to fail. It is hard to maintain discipline alone. We make excuses, let other things occupy our time, and lose momentum. When we know that others are counting on us to walk with them on the journey we are more likely to keep going. We feel responsible to another and allow the commitment to keep up the momentum even when we don’t feel like continuing on.

In our faith walk we cannot go it alone. We are unable to keep the law of God by ourselves. We become distracted by the obstacles of daily life. We are tempted to listen to others who would lead us down the wrong path. Jesus has given us his Holy Spirit to walk alongside us on the journey of faith. The Spirit is our constant companion. He helps us make the right choices and not lose momentum when times get tough. When we know we are not alone, it is easier to keep walking.

Lord, remind us that we are not alone. Help us to hear your Spirit guide us on the journey. Amen.
