Following Instructions

Psalm 119:105  105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

We have recipes for meals, instruction manuals for repairs and maintenance, maps for travel, and textbooks for learning. Some of us follow the instructions and others like to wing it and figure things out for themselves. The only problem with winging it is that there is a good possibility that we will do things wrong. Then we have to undo what we did, read the instructions, and start all over. It is a waste of time and effort.

On the walk of faith we also have an instruction manual, the Bible. But so often we practice our faith without ever cracking it open. We try to walk the journey without the map and wonder why we are going the wrong way. Reading the Bible is essential for the faith walk. If you can’t understand the Bible you have find another translation that is easier to read. We can discover where God is leading only when we have the directions.

Lord, give us a hunger to read your word. Help us read the instructions before we step out in faith. Amen.
